HEALING TOGETHER: WHOSE REPORT WILL YOU BELIEVE?

A
s a young girl in the secondary school, I was constantly having headaches. They were very severe and would linger on for a long time.

Eventually, I sought permission from school and went to the hospital to seek medical attention. Upon several examinations, the medical doctor told me that I was struggling and forcing myself to go beyond my intellectual ability which was limited to secondary school education. He then asked that, I end my academic pursuit there and relax. I should not bother to go beyond that.

I didn’t expect that result but I was not deterred.  I decided to engage an elderly man who was like a godfather to me. He advised that, I was a beautiful girl who can easily get a rich man to marry me so I wouldn’t need to pursue higher level of education. I heard him but still wasn’t listening to his verdict either.

Armed with the medical reports, I went back to school determined not to let the verdict affect me negatively. I committed myself to study hard despite the headaches. While I experienced pain whenever there was an episode, I felt immense relief whenever it passed. It always passed after a while and I graduated from Secondary School. I later gained admission to the Premier University in the country.

Irrespective of the headaches, I successfully completed a four-year study programme and obtained my first degree. Upon completion, I went on to get a masters’ degree still irrespective of the persistent headaches. By now I had learnt to manage the headaches, identify the triggers and intentionally regulate the effects.

I proceeded to study for a second master’s degree in a field I am very passionate about. Currently, I am engaged in several activities towards empowering others and I look forward to studying for my Doctorate degree sometime soon.

I believe in myself and the plans God has for my life. The headaches continue to persist till date, even after decades but I am thriving regardless of it all. I had to make a choice on whose report to identify with and i made a choice I do not regret – the unfailing report of grace, success and purpose of God.
